A mattress without springs. Has many benefits and some downsides when comparing it to a mattress with a spring unit inside. In the end it comes down to your specific preferences and needs.
PROS:
Price – In general an all foam mattress without springs will save you some money over purchasing an innerspring mattress with springs. This is generally because using a support foam as your base is more affordable than using a spring unit. However, an all foam latex mattress will be more expensive than a hybrid latex mattress with springs and foam.
Limits Partner Disturbance/ Motion Transfer – An all foam mattress is great at isolating movements and limiting the transfer of motion throughout the mattress. When one person rolls around or gets out of bed with a spring mattress often the other person can feel the bounce and movement, this is much less likely with a foam mattress. Have you ever seen the commercial with the person jumping on the bed next to a glass of wine, and the wine doesn’t spill? That is an all foam mattress.
Pressure relief – All foam mattresses are great at relieving pressure points on the body and hugging the bodies curves (especially memory foam mattresses).
CONS:
Different feel – The main con of an all foam mattress for some people is that is can feel slightly different than the traditional spring mattresses they are used to. An all foam mattress won’t have as much bounce and may hug the body differently than springs.
Watch out for low quality companies – With the introduction of mattresses without springs came an opportunity for low quality manufacturers to offer mattresses with low quality foam at extremely cheap prices. Since all mattresses look the same it may be tempting to purchase one of these low price point options. Just follow the general rule of “you get what you pay for” and try to buy mattresses made in the US and you should get a quality product with foam that will support your body and last door years to come.
