Mattress removal in Columbia, MO

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our Columbia pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

How it works

Columbia and Missouri mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Columbia's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. What Columbia asks for if you use city pickup

These are City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • Make sure that the large item is not set out into the street.
    • The scheduled oversized item will need to be curbside by 7:30 a.m.
    • Where to put it: make sure the large item has clearance of 8 feet from other objects as well as 3 feet of clearance from the roll cart if the bulky-item pick up is scheduled on the same day as refuse collection.
    • Each residential customer with curbside collection will be provided the collection of one (1) bulky item each fiscal year (October 1 through September 30) at no additional cost.
    • Their accepted list is bulky items are normal household items that are too large to be placed in a roll cart, such as furniture. — it doesn't name mattresses either way, so ask before you put one out.
    • On what they won't take at the curb: generally prohibited items include materials resulting from the erection, destruction or remodeling of a building, felled trees, large automobile parts, hazardous materials and items which generally cannot be handled by two individuals.

Wait for city pickup

City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility runs a bulk collection. Customers who live in a multi-family home are not eligible to request large item collections. First item per scheduled bulky item collection: $21.50 (free if the current fiscal year’s free item has not been used yet). Their page doesn't say whether mattresses are included, so confirm it before you put one out.
