The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

3. What Elk Grove asks for if you use city pickup

   These are Republic Services' requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

   • Materials must be placed out for collection in front of the residence and on the same side of the street.
   • A pile measuring 7' x 6' x 4' is the maximum amount of material that will be accepted.
   • Placing material out sooner may result in a citation for illegal dumping, this includes any material added or dumped on your pile by unknown persons.
